Overview

The goal of this course is to introduce the student in the interdisciplinary field of cultural psychology that studies how cultural meanings, practices, and institutions influence and reflect individual human psychologies. It discusses the evidence that basic psychological (cognitive, emotional and motivational) processes vary across populations. It aims to show how individual minds are shaped by the broader context they live in and, in turn, contribute to shaping that context, making mind and culture inseparable. In this way, it wants to broaden the understanding of the student of oneself as well as of the other.
