Course description
This class is designed to introduce students to the terms, concepts and issues in sportsmanagement and their practical application in the sports business workplace. There will be heavy emphasis on discussion of the key concepts and issues in the various disciplines of the sports industry and the interrelationship among the various disciplines. We will share practical experience and incorporate student experimentation to achieve our goal of fully preparing our students for advancement in Sports Management.

Course Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the major functions and skills required of facility and event managers within the sports industry;
2. Identify the cost and revenue streams involved with operating events and facilities;
3. Apply management, marketing, financial, legal skills and principles to facility and event management issues;
4. Apply facility and event management practices within the sports industry;
5. Apply sales, sponsorship, licensing and communications practices within the industry;
6. Critically discuss trends and issues in athletic event and facility planning and management.
Course Learning Activities
To achieve the course objectives, various instructional strategies will be used including lecture, presentations, discussion, writing, reading, web enhanced material, and individual or collaborative exercises.
