This module undertakes detailed study of different forms of documentary representation in film and television, and investigates how they have been shaped and transformed by social, institutional, intellectual and technological circumstances. Drawing on a wide range of examples from historical and contemporary documentary practice, the module provides a broad-based knowledge of the development of documentary as a distinct area of film and television production, and of the ethical, philosophical and contextual issues relevant to understanding and evaluating documentary representations of the world.
