This module aims to develop an awareness and understanding of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics in relation to healthy individuals and in the treatment of disease. The effects of drug applications on mode of delivery and dose according to personal characteristics, are explained and evaluated. Toxicology deals with the adverse effects of chemical substances on living systems and is therefore of relevance to all areas of the biosciences. Like pharmacology it is an interdisciplinary subject encompassing biochemistry, physiology and pathology. In this module, routes for the entry, distribution and excretion of a range of organic and inorganic toxins are examined together with the molecular mechanisms of toxicity and the enzyme systems and pathways involved in their metabolism.
