Different theoretical approaches to the study of animal behaviour will be examined and their uses in different disciplines explored. Lectures and practical classes will be used to introduce the use of observation methods and experimental designs used in the observation of animal behaviour. The ethical problems of studying the behaviour of both animals and humans will also be discussed. The evolution of social behaviour, its consequences and ethical issues will be examined by including a wide range of species, including humans.
