This module supports all other areas of the first year programme including technique, composition and theoretical studies. It provides a foundation study of dance movement based on a range of perspectives including Laban-based movement analysis and dance science-based theory. These perspectives and methodologies are introduced with the express focus of students reflecting on their own practice thereby promoting healthy, safe and efficient dance practice as well as an awareness of the expressive potential of dance movement. Links will also be made to the potential of some of these frameworks as aids to dance observation and analysis
