Prerequisite(s): 100 credits at HE1, including compulsory HE1 set in Sociology or a cognate subject
This module draws on key debates within sociology in exploring a range of issues from individual experiences of health and illness, through the contested nature of knowledge claims to the organisation of health care. Keeping healthy, becoming ill, living with chronic illness and seeking medical treatment are all aspect of people?s everyday lives. This area of sociology therefore addresses issues of fundamental human importance and is of central concern in contemporary culture. The module will examine sociological contributions to the understanding of health, illness and medicine.
