a detailed examination of the evolution of vampire mythology from 19th Century folklore, literature and painting to 21st century film and television. It will offer a particular, but not exclusive, focus upon American cinema and television. It will offer the opportunity to consider the vampire myth as an element of the horror genre but also as a developing genre in its own right and consider the impact of cultural, economic, social and industrial contexts upon the development of this genre. It will explore how the reinvention of this mythology through the modern media of film and television has modernised the vampire and will offer the opportunity to consider why the vampire continues to be a figure of cultural fascination and horror.
