In the final stages of the programme, students will be considering the prospects for future employment and also the potential for further educational development. This will be an opportunity for the students to engage and reflect on what they have learnt and in what way their experience of the programme will affect the kind of choices they make in preparation for the courses? successful completion. The module will offer the students the opportunity to interact with photographic practitioners and other professionals such as picture editors, gallery directors and advertising directors, as a means of engaging with the varying ways in which photography is used in contemporary society. A number of professionals will be invited to attend the programme and discuss their work with the student cohort. These will take the form of a series of up to 6 formal lectures and subsequent seminars, which will be spread over the 12-week semester. Students will also study and consider the meanings of photography in its varying institutional contexts, from the medical archive to the picture library etc. They will critically evaluate values, beliefs and conventions and the rules through which institutional practice operates and defines itself.
