This module focuses on the national principles and priorities that shape social policy in early childhood services. The main priorities of the Labour government are to expand education and childcare opportunities and to reduce social exclusion and poverty. These priorities have been accompanied by large budgets and intense activity at local level to turn them into reality. This module looks critically at the issues of social policy, the concerns that gave rise to them and their impact on the lives of young children and families.
