This module is designed to give students a grounding in feminist and gender-based theatre studies, a body of research and theory that is now recognised as fundamental to theatre studies? critical and theoretical understanding, and continues to be in the forefront of new developments in the field. The module offers opportunity for wide-ranging, and comparative exploration of key aspects of women's work and achievements in drama, theatre, and performance. It explores: how particular ideologies of gender function in drama, theatre and performance; the potential of gender-informed critical practice for revealing and subverting existing norms of representation; and the range and variety of dramatic and theatrical practice by women.
