Overview

Assessment: to be confirmed
This module provides students with an understanding of language structures and basic analytic skills and terminology and introduces them to well-established frameworks for linguistic analysis. They will acquire basic knowledge about language structure, the terminology with which to discuss language and linguistic data, and skills of analysis. They will also gain experience in problem solving by the application of theoretical models to data. This module provides a basis on which all other modules can draw in their consideration of the place of language in human experience. Students will need to apply the skills and knowledge acquired here in their other HE1 modules, and use them as a basis for levels HE2 and HE3 study.
