This module develops out of the foundation year set and examines the relationships between dance, culture and society. It provides a theoretical grounding in key concepts of anthropology and sociology integrating them in relation to their relevance for dance studies. From the field of anthropology the module will emphasise the cultural construction of human worlds generally and of dance systems specifically and offer a cross-cultural perspective to the study of dance. The module will also provide the basis for understanding material that will be developed further at HE3 level.
