Assessment: portfolio: narrative nonfiction story, (3500 words) [70%], critical reflection essay (1500 words) [30%] [overall pass is sufficient]
In this module, students have the chance to use the full range of narrative techniques to tell stories about real people, places and events. Under the umbrella term ?narrative nonfiction?, the form includes reportage, memoir, biography, travel writing, the lyric essay and the popular ?feature? format. The module looks beyond traditional journalism but considers the benefits for all writers that can be gained from professional reporting skills. More broadly, it helps students identify their own writing strengths and weaknesses, enhance personal skills in research, analysis and presentation and develop a presentable body of work. The module builds on the first-year module Life Writing, but also works as a stand-alone module.
