Assessment: essay (1000 words) [a variety of formative tasks/assessments will be set during the term]
This module will provide a stimulating context for students to gain an introduction to one of the two core domains of psychological research and theory: Developmental and Social Psychology. The focus will be upon outlining and explaining key theories, concepts, constructs and approaches central to these particular perspectives on the psychological study of human experience. It will thus prepare students for further study and evaluation of such research at HE2 and beyond. The module links to programme aims in respect of providing a multi-perspective scientific introduction to mind, brain, behaviour and experience, highlighting some of the complex interactions between these. Students will gain a preliminary appreciation of the role of empirical research in the creation of social psychological theory, and how extant theories guide the conduct of empirical research. This will equip students with transferable skills for further academic study.
