Overview
General Objectives:
The aim of this subject is to to know and to handle correctly the basic terminology of strength & conditioning training and the basic physical qualities.To know the main components of strength & conditioning training in the different scopes of participation, keys to learn to observe, to detect and to correct critical elements on which to take part in the training. To know the relevance the general principles of strength & conditioning training in different contexts of practice (health, education and sport high-level). To know methodological aspects and main means used to develop the physical qualities. To understand the bases and the processes of interaction between basic physical qualities.
Class Description:
After a brief introduction of the basics principles of strength & conditioning, the student will be taught about the fundamental concepts of learning and development and the perceptive skills needed to understand and implement the concepts and procedures necessary for the smooth development of this subject.
CONTENTS:
UNIT 1: GENERAL ASPECTS OF SPORTS TRAINING, FIELDS AND AIMS OF
TRAINING.
Physical activity, physical exercise and sport. Fitness and level of practice Definitions
and concepts in the scope of the preparation and sport training. Scopes and objectives of
the training
UNIT 2: BASICS PRINCIPLES OF TRAINING
General Pedagogical principles, Specific Biological principles, Other Principles
(Fatigue, Recovery, Overtraining)
UNIT 3: FACTORS TAKING PART OF SPORTS TRAINING
The load: aspects to consider. supercompensation, fatigue and recovery, overtraining,
prevention, intervention.
UNIT 4: STRENGTH & CONDITIONING TRAINING – THE STRENGTH, THE
ENDURANCE, THE FLEXIBILITY, THE SPEED
Fundamentals of the training of the strength. Concepts, methods of development and
evaluation.
Fundamentals of the training of the resistance. Concepts, methods of development and
evaluation.
Fundamentals of the training of the flexibility. Concepts, methods of development and
evaluation.
Fundamentals of the training of the speed. Concepts, methods of development and
evaluation.
UNIT 5: INITIATION TO THE COMPLEMENTAR CAPACITIES TO DEVELOP
(AGILITY, QUICKNESS,…)
Coordinative capacities. Concept, development and evaluation,
Balance. Concept, development and evaluation.
Agility. Concept, development and evaluation.
Propioception. Concept, development and evaluation
Methodology:
The class will be organized as seminars on a seminar style basis. Teacher will present the basic theoretical and practical contents. Students will have access to the personalized and small group tutorials and meetings with the teacher. Active participation during attendance, practical home works and exams will be used during initial, formative and additive assessment and they will play an active role in the final grade.
