Overview
Course outline:
This course aims to develop an understanding of the concepts of statistics, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, frequency distributions, introduction to probability, regression analysis and correlation, hypothesis testing and goodness of fit tests, analysis of variance, introduction to experimentation, instrumentation & data acquisition, measurement of strain, measurement of force, torque & pressure, measurement of vibration. Professional Communication Studies teaches a module in this course for a percentage of the final mark.
48 lectures, 8 practicals.
DP requirements:
The student must: attend all lectures and tutorials & practicals; achieve at least 60% of the class average for all the class tests; submit all written assignments, tutorials, practical and reports, and; submit folder for final examination. The folder should contain all notes, assignments, tutorials, practicals, test scripts and reports.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment by projects, assignments and tests.
