COURSE DESCRIPTION
This studio art course introduces basic principles of drawing. The course includes model drawings, landscape drawings and experimental (abstract) drawings. The focus of this course is on the development of expression and observational drawing from still life, a model and landscapes.

OBJECTIVES
Students will learn how to:
? Find creative solutions for spatial issues.
? Develop a critical eye to analyze art work and view objects.
? Conceptualize and express visual ideas.
? Render objects realistically.
? Utilize abilities to draw basic formal element including line, shape, texture and value.

? Different surfaces: Representing glass, wood, metal, etc.

? Perspective: Linear, Areal density, etc

METHODOLOGY
This course based on:
Demonstration ? The instructor will demonstrate concepts and technique by
drawing in front of the class.
Hands on teaching ? The instructor will make the rounds, working with each
student, giving constructive criticism, and doing individual demonstrations.
Discussion ? The instructor will illustrate the technical and expressive aspects of
life drawing by showing examples of his own work, and the work of other artists.
Students will be encouraged to participate in group discussions and critiques as
time allows.
Individual Discussion ? The instructor will guide students individually by giving
technical advice and suggested reading and research which would benefit
individual students.
Homework assignments are an essential means towards progress in a studio
discipline. Work outside of class will consist of both independent homework
assignments dealing with the principles covered in class as well as the continuation
of drawings begun in class. The latter will require that students spend time in the
studio outside of regular class meetings. The times the studio is available for use
outside of class meeting times will be announced and posted.As a general rule,
students should expect to spend twice as many hours outside of class on their
drawings as they spend in class each week. However, rate of work varies from
individual to individual and students are cautioned that they may need more or
less time and to pace themselves accordingly.

Audience
This course is structured for International Students attending the Study Abroad
program at Universidad Veritas. However, courses are not exclusive to foreigners
so a few native student could enroll in this course.

Attendance
Students are only allowed 2 absences (justified or not). The student will fail the
course if he/she has more than 2 absences. Students will have a 0 on any
assignment evaluated in class (presentations, evaluations, field trips, etc.) if he/she
is absent in this class, unless an official document is presented to justify the
absence the class after the absence. In this case the assignment will be done this
day. An unjustified absence to a fieldtrip will immediately mean failing the
course. You can only have two total absences in your elective courses
HOWEVER, if you miss more than one day of class in a given month, YOU
WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT for that particular course.

Electronic devices:
The use of cell phones, smart phones, or other mobile communication devices is disruptive, and is therefore prohibited during class. Please turn all devices OFF and put them away when class begins. Devices may be used ONLY when the professor assigns a specific activity and allows the use of devices for internet search or recording. Those who fail to comply with the rule must leave the classroom for the remainder of the class period.
Behavior
Professors have the right to expel a student from the classroom should he / she:
1) be disruptive in the classroom
2) be under the influence of alcohol or even smell like alcohol
3) Behave in a disrespectful way.
If you tend to be late for class, you will lose 25% of your total grade

Weekly homework assignments projects will only be graded on their due date. All partial assignments may be corrected and re-submitted a second time in order to add an extra 1% in order to improve the grade.
If a student is unable to attend class, he/she must send his/her due assignment.
